ਦੋਹੜਾ / Couplet

This concise yet profound form of verse captures the essence of life's myriad experiences in just a couplet. With its sharp wit, keen observations, and rhythmic charm, Dohra (ਦੋਹੜਾ or ਦੋਹਿਰਾ) offers a snapshot of Punjabi life, culture, and values. Simple in form but profound in meaning, they're the pearls of wisdom passed down through generations. Each stanza is roughly made up of 30 matras with a pause around the 16th and usually end with heavy vowel sounds like aa, oo, ee, au etc.
